The study of comics through the critical interpretation of its purposes, forms and contents enables the students to be aware about aesthetical and ethical values. Comic production in art education fosters social reconstruction through pedagogy of resistance enabling students to develop intuitive knowledge, critical skills, disciplinary knowledge, ethical values and helping them to construct a social vision of the world, resisting to dominant ideologies and social injustice.

Comics are visual art forms that highly motivate children because they belong to their own cultural contexts, recent research in Japan (Toku, 2001 ; Wilson,1999 ) demonstrated that throughout adolescence Japanese children tend to continue to acquire skills to express visual narratives in the form of manga comics. Adams (2000 ) claimed that the practice of comic production, so familiar to young people, works effectively if supported by analytical criticism and visual awareness
